Reminder: Join the EnviRights Online Training Programme on Environmental Rights and Civic Space
Published on September 3, 2026 by Babette

We are happy to share an invitation from the EnviRights team to participate in their upcoming online training programme, organised as part of the EU-funded EnviRights project.

This free training is designed for environmental defenders, activists, civil society organisations, collectives, and anyone interested in strengthening their understanding of the legal frameworks that protect environmental rights and civic space.

The programme consists of two interactive online sessions:

Session 1 – Human Rights Frameworks for Environmental Defenders

22 September 2026 | 10:00–12:30 CET
This session will explore the main human rights frameworks protecting environmental defenders, including the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights, and the Aarhus Convention. Participants will learn more about key rights such as freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, and access to information, as well as how these rights are interpreted and applied in practice.

Session 2 – SLAPPs, Legal Risks & Practical Tools for Environmental Defenders

5 October 2026 | 10:00–12:30 CET
This session will focus on the legal challenges faced by environmental activists, with a particular focus on Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). Participants will explore legal risks, protection mechanisms, and practical tools to monitor violations, access resources, and strengthen the resilience of environmental defenders.

The training will provide valuable practical knowledge on the legal frameworks protecting environmental defenders, as well as tools to better understand, exercise, and safeguard rights in the context of environmental and climate action.

Each session can be attended independently, but participants are encouraged to join both sessions to gain a complete overview of the legal frameworks and practical tools available.
We encourage our collectives, partners, activists, NGOs, youth organisations, and others working on environmental and climate issues to take part in this opportunity.

Thank you to the EnviRights team for making this training available, and we hope to see many members of our network participating!

Warmly

Thank you for sharing this, and for helping amplify the EnviRights training opportunity across the network. Legal literacy around the Aarhus Convention and SLAPP protections is increasingly essential for environmental defenders, especially given the rising number of strategic lawsuits targeting activists and civil society organisations across Europe.

We'd be glad to encourage our own members and partners to register for both sessions. The combination of a rights-frameworks primer (Session 1) alongside practical tools for navigating legal risk (Session 2) looks like a well-structured programme for organisations who may not have in-house legal expertise.

Thanks again to the EnviRights team for making this freely available, and to All For Climate for circulating it. Looking forward to seeing the takeaways shared with the wider network afterward, for those unable to attend live.
