Yesterday, at our Cost of Living and Debt Community Meeting, we discussed & listened to each other. Discussion was lively and was engaged with readily.

First up - After teas, coffees, and doughnuts - we talked about Food & Solidarity - its principles and origins as well as some of the activities and action we have done

We then heard from Ewan Gibbs about the grassroots organising that happened before the poll tax non-payment campaign and its ultimate victory! Followed by Q&A

Graham from Clean Slate demystified what it is to get in debt - in his 15 years experience, this is overwhelming because of unpredictable changes in a person's material conditions

While @dontpayuk NE6 presented the "don't pay" plan and answered questions!

We then ran a workshop on bailiff resistance - what are they allowed to do? What can we do as a community to protect each other!

We'd hoped to be joined by a Bolivian water activist - she was unable to join because of unstable internet - she is aware of what was happening in the UK & sees all this as connected (as do we) - she sent 2 short films for us to show in her absence.

Finally, after a quick summing up, we shared a meal and talked about the event, this will be the first of many events! If you joined us, it was great to see you! If not, we hope to see you with us next time!
