About
Bonsai is a free and open-source platform that allows scientists and researchers of all fields, all over the world, to quickly develop high-performance data acquisition and control systems. Bonsai combines a high-level reactive event algebra for data streams (ReactiveX) with an integrated visual development environment (VDE) requiring no previous programming experience.
It is currently used in neuroscience research to design custom instruments for measuring brain activity and behavior; in dance and architecture for designing augmented performances and interactive installations; and in robotics and VR/AR for autonomous control and ambient intelligence.
The goal of the Bonsai project is to level the playing field for experimental research across the world. The cost of licenses for easy to use data acquisition, signal processing and hardware integration control software is prohibitive. By providing access to a high-quality, easy to use, and freely available environment for data acquisition and experimental control, Bonsai aims to transform accessibility of data-driven research worldwide.
