Hey!
My name is Derek Dietz. I am a lifelong chef and lover of food and for the past few years I have been working with different disaster relief and humanitarian organizations. Last year while volunteering in Colombia, I had the most profound experience cooking  in an amazing "grass roots" soup kitchen in Medellin.  At this commUNITY-ran soup kitchen for kids they were able to feed lunch daily to 95 children that otherwise wouldn't have received  it. 

     Now we have raised enough money and opened another one modeled after that one in one of the poorer areas on the outskirts of Medellin!! This an amazing community of beautiful people who all have been displaced in the past 20 years because of war and other social issues. They are super kind grateful and real. I feel very proud to be a part of this community now here in Altos de la Virgen in Comuna 13, Medellin, Colombia. 

 We now are open daily serving free lunches to all of the children in the community here from Monday to Friday 11AM-12:30PM As well as Sunday @ 1pm. At this point we already have well over 140 kids coming daily and expect to keep increasing more. 

   We were blessed to raise enough funds through gofundme to open and have enough money for the first month for operating expenses but have now have started this fundraiser and open collective in order to make sure we can continue this operation in the following months  and years. All of the funds used goes into the monthly operational expenses of the Comedor here!    Our monthly needs will be about $2000 US. that includes labor (5 staff paid $10 a week each) All food cost, utilities , and the transportation everyday. That will be enough to provide about 4000 kids meals a month. (.50/ complete healthy delicious meal)
