Solid wood counting in cubic meters not working good

Jacek B

Hi! =D
I have problem with solid wood counting - cubic meter counting wrong.
For example: (220cm x 10cm x 5cm) x24pcs = 0,264m3 not 0,528.
Im using solid wood, for wood construction parts.
Help will be appreciated!

Hi Jacek,

This is because of the orientation of your parts. " Grubość" is the thickness, therefore your 220cm (length) x 10cm (width) x 5cm (thickness) will be counted as 220 x 10 x 10. If you edit the part and go to the tab "Osie", you can easily swap width and thickness to make a 220 x 5 x 10.

In your case, by matching a thickness  of 50mm into a piece of lumber of thickness 100mm, will result in a loss of material. You could also add a thickness of 50mm to the material, OpenCutList will then make 2 groups (one for the 100mm thick wood and one for the 50mm thick wood).

Also in this case, if you are buying the wood in these sections without further planing it, you could use Dimensional as the type of lumber.

Let me know if that helped you!

Hi!
Thanks for Your fast response.
Youre correct! I changed axis in my parts and...everything is fine!

Second question, is it possible to have default material settings for every SKP project?
When i doin another project, i must add material, set as wood, etc.

Thank You VERY MUCH!!

Hi,

There are several things you can do. One of the easiest is probably to save each material to a .skm file. Sketchup will propose to save it somewhere like

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2022\SketchUp\Materials\OpenCutList

but you can select any folder. You will have to save each material individually. You can then reload this material in a new project, by importing the material.

The other thing you can do, is to setup some presets. You can save the parameters of an existing material into a preset. When creating new material, you can apply the preset and it will fill the parameters.
