Happy new year! I hop that 2023 contains many happy Ooks! for you!
First, let me start by expressing my gratitude to all of you you've made the last month amazing for me. It's been filled with some hard work, getting the instance running smoothly, ironing out bugs and/or adding customizations to enhance flavour. Your reactions have been amazing, supportive and inspiring! Keep them up please!
On the technical side, the Drum has not required any hardware upgrades in December. Disk usage is stable, and the VPS is holding up fine. I added machine translations via DeepL after user requests; this is running on a free limited trial account now. If it's used a lot I may add the paid tier as a feature. The request to rename the federated timeline to 'The Great Trunk' has not been implemented (yet) due to technical difficulties.
Finally, user count has stabilized to just under 200, with about three-quarters of them active. Signups still need an invite code or approval by moderator but are otherwise open.
As Mastodon 4.0 allows for finer user controls, I have been able to add a 'Supporter'-role. This role will be given to any user who has supported the Drum, financially or otherwise (e.g. by supporting artwork, helping other users, etc.) and will allow creation of invites for friends and family. Please be responsible and don't use the never-expire option!
Also, again many thanks to all of you who have found some spare change to donate. As you can see from the statement below your generosity means the future of the Drum is fully guaranteed for the next six months, and in practice with recurring donations for much longer.
