January 2026 Update - The L-Space Letter

Hi there,
and sorry for the delay in sending out this quarterly update. It's been busy on the home front, but luckily not so busy on the Drum front so this will be a shortish update.
Update to version 4.5.2
Where the update to 4.4.4 didn't go too well (as you've been able to read in the previous update), the update to 4.5.2 went smoothly. This allows for quoots, or quoted toots. Spend some time going over your settings as you have full control on who can quote your toots, even on an individual toot level!
At the time of writing, the main branch has some minor bugfix releases and some security releases and is up to 4.5.5, so in the not too distant future I hope to update again.
Images not loading
We still on occasion run into the issue of images not loading. For some unknown reason, at certain times our server takes too many frog pills and loses itself somewhere in L-Space. In other words, lost name resolving. Giving it a pat on the back (restarting the service) solves this. We've deployed a small change that seems to make this less frequent, but still not entirely solved. Work continues, and this is the place I am happy to announce @[email protected] has joined us as Chief Technical And Troubleshooting Advisor In A Purely Informal Position (CTaTAiaPIT). Welcome!
Birthday
At this point I want to congratulate the L-Space Cabal* with the thirty (30) year anniversary of lspace.org - truly a magnificent age, and as a wise man told me this week older than microsoft.com or apple.com. lspace, alt.fan.pratchett (born 1992, day unknown to me) and the Discworld Conventions played a big role in creating the fancommunity for which I've set up this server. So thanks!
Finances
Financially, the Drum had a good autumn, covering our financial needs well. Just before Christmas I was able to donate another €250,00 to the Orang Utang Foundation as the state of our server remains strong.
