About

Noise@UNSW is currently our university's only independent student publication.

As we briefly mentioned in our first Q&A, Noise is currently entirely funded out-of-pocket by the paper’s editors. We have no sponsors, no grant funding, no corporate backing for our paper.

This isn’t a model that can exist for the long term. It locks out those from lower income backgrounds, experiencing cost-of-living pressures, or who just don’t have the disposable income to run a student publication out of pocket. It also prevents us from scaling the project to accommodate more students, produce print editions, and the dozens of other goals we aim to achieve with Noise.

While our expenses are currently extremely low (hovering in the double digits as of April 2024), our project is scaling to the point where we are limited in our ability to directly fund it. As such, Noise is selling itself out to the students of UNSW through this OpenCollective page.
