About

Music is a universal language. with good beats & lyrics, we can package and deliver - through edutainment - digital security tips and best practices on common digital security topics to at-risk human rights defenders, journalists, minority groups, and activists in 4 to 5-minute music videos and audios. It is amazing how much knowledge in digital security we can share in 5 minutes.

The goal of our Digital Security in Beats Media Project is to raise awareness on digital security threats and challenges faced by human rights defender community in Uganda and other parts of East Africa and offer simple tips, guidelines and basic techniques on how to overcome them.

We were inspired to pursue this project by a simple YouTube video on Phishing that had used a parody of It Wasn't Me by Shaggy to brilliantly deliver the message and raise awareness. Video Link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGQ-69z3Fxk)

Through this project, we hope to work with top producers and musicians from Uganda and East Africa and work with them to make parodies of their popular songs by simply changing the lyrics but keeping the original beats and rhythms.

For the first 12 songs studio album, we have chosen the following 12 topics in digital security and each of them will be 4 to 6 minutes in length (maximum);
  1. Phishing
  2. Internet Freedom
  3. Malware
  4. Encryption
  5. Backup
  6. Passwords
  7. Anonymous
  8. Safe Browsing
  9. WannaCry
  10. Cyber Threats
  11. Mobile Security
  12. Privacy
This album will be available for free to human rights defenders, journalists, activists, and anyone else who needs to learn about digital security. It will also be freely accessible by digital security trainers for use as a complementary source of material while conducting digital security training. We strongly believe this unconventional method of conducting digital security is able to make learning digital security fun and entertaining whilst being educative and informative at the same time.
