Play-Study with ten | Selah

Inspired by our guiding thread of playful inquiry, this July ten (The Emergence Network) is launching  Play-Study, a collective space orienting around creative works which inspire postactivist practice and community. For our first cohort, we will be delving into Selah: A Báyò Akómoláfé Reader. Selah is a curated selection of Báyò’s writings over the years edited by Eden Pearlstein, published by Ayin Press, with artwork from longtime ten collaborator, Krista Dragomer. The reader includes essays, poems, philosophical fragments and parables on postactivism.

In this round of Play-Study, we will be reading with the intention of exploring the play—and more specifically the humour—in Báyò’s writings and within the footnotes, references, and inspirations in the book. We’re creating a Postactivist Playbook, a living curation of postactivist practices and guided reflections that will grow as we read together, weaving in practices that emerge from curators and participants alike. We intend to approach the book sideways—using a process of bibliomancy rather than reading the book cover to cover. This first foray into Play-Study begins on July 16th. The journey will last three months and folks can choose to engage asynchronously with the materials or join emergent online encounters for connection, discussion, and further provocations with other participants (and possible surprise visits from Báyò). It’s pay-what-you-can between $20 - $35USD (or more, if possible). Register below by July 15th to play & study with us!
