About

The Youth Care Collective (YCC) is a Circles & Ciphers initiative that provides material mutual aid support for young people (under 30) currently in Cook County Jail, on EM, and young folxs recently released while prioritizing the youngest, women, queer and BIPOC.

YCC originated in June 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 has really exposed how power structures in our society are not meeting nor responding to the needs of incarcerated youth, their families, and the communities they will return to. With the inspiration of mutual aid by Black and indegeinous people in Chicago, YCC has provided support to young people impacted by violence from the carceral system.

Our services include:
  • Sending political care packages to young people currently in Cook County Jail (care packages include political education, puzzles, journaling prompts, quotes from BIPOC, hip hop lyrics, zines, historical events, newsletters/magazines, specific items young people request, and much more!)
  • Letter Writing Nights (sending young people we have connections with encouraging letters of support, pen pals)
  • Adding monetary support to young people’s books
  • Sending Food Care Packages
  • Re-entry Support
With your support we will be able to support youth impacted by the carceral system and their needs.
