About
What we do
“Design bitcoin for everyone” is the motto of the Bitcoin Design Community. Established as an online community in 2020, it has produced the Bitcoin Design Guide, the Bitcoin UI Kit, reference designs and adoption-pushing efforts like the unified QR code and taproot campaigns. The large community has held hundreds of calls, organized Designathons and worked directly with many open source projects to improve their design. A small number of grants initiated this huge body of collective work, positively impacting the whole bitcoin ecosystem. The Bitcoin Design Foundation supports the sustainability of these efforts and expand the impact of good design on bitcoin.
Who's behind it
The foundation has been set up by Christoph Ono, Mogashni Naidoo and Daniel Nordh. All three are core contributors, maintainers and organizers of the Bitcoin Design Community’s projects and activities.
Donations
Donations are primarily used for grants for individuals and projects that will have a strong positive impact on the user experience of bitcoin. We may also create targeted bounties to incentivize specific work on areas of improvement that otherwise get little attention. A small part of the donations will go to supporting community and ecosystem events around promoting design awareness and collaboration, such as hackathons (see the 2022 Designathon) and conference representation (see BTC Prague 2023 participation).
Decisions on spending are primarily made by the three collective admins. An advisory board is being formed, and we may also ask experts for advice on topics we are less experienced with. We aim to be sensitive and respectful to everyones privacy and strive to find a good balance between full transparency and individual needs.
We also encourage direct donations to individual contributors and projects. If you are not in a situation where you can donate financially, reach out to them and let them know you appreciate their efforts.
