At least 12 million people have fled their homes since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The ongoing tragedy inspired Canadian luthierLinda Manzer to build a unique hand-crafted instrument she calls Sunflower Guitar for Ukraine – with a meticulously inlaid mother-of-pearl sunflower on the peghead that incorporates the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag.
Linda’s plan is to gift the guitar to the people of Ukraine, and to use the guitar to inspire people around the world to donate vital humanitarian aid.
As the guitar journeys to Ukraine (arriving in the fall of 2022), Linda has arranged for it to pass through the hands of many wonderful people including famous musicians, allowing them to express their solidarity while encouraging their fans to donate to the cause.

WHERE DO THE DONATIONS GO?
Funds raised will go to The $1k Project for Ukraine, a volunteer-based effort that provides direct financial support to Ukrainian families in need – giving $1,000 US to every family it supports. So far, The $1k Project for Ukraine has raised $8 million and supported 7,500 families.
Sunflower Guitar for Ukraine has been kickstarted with a generous $100,000 donation from a Manzer guitar owner who wishes to remain anonymous. Linda’s goal is to inspire donations totalling $250,000.
Linda Manzer: "I built the Sunflower Guitar for Ukraine when the invasion began as my way of working through the distress I felt for the Ukrainian people suffering from this brutal war on their country. My hope is that this guitar can inspire the global music community to give generously to the humanitarian relief provided by The $1k Project for Ukraine."
