# NyxOS – A 64-bit OS Kernel Built from Scratch
Hi! I'm a solo developer building **NyxOS**, a fully-featured 64-bit (x86_64) operating system kernel written in **C and Assembly**.
This project is **100% open-source** (GPL v2.0) and completely **non-commercial**. No ads, no paid versions, no user tracking. Just pure low-level engineering for the love of it.
## What's inside NyxOS right now?
- **Graphics**: Native GUI compositor with a windowing system.
- **Networking**: Full network stack with RTL8139 driver, ARP, IP, UDP, ICMP, DHCP, and TCP (in progress).
- **Audio**: Working Sound Blaster 16 driver.
- **Shell**: Built-in command line with 15+ commands (`ls`, `cd`, `cat`, `grep`, `ping`, `ifconfig`, etc.).
- **Architecture**: Long mode, 4-level paging, NX bit, and SMEP support.
## Why am I raising funds?
I develop NyxOS **alone**. To keep the pace and quality high, I use the **DeepSeek API** as my AI pair-programmer. It helps me:
- Debug tricky memory corruption and page faults.
- Write and test new drivers (network, storage, audio).
- Optimize the scheduler and interrupt handlers.
- Generate technical documentation.
**100% of the funds raised** will go directly to covering the monthly DeepSeek API usage fees.
## Total Transparency
Every single expense (API invoices, etc.) will be logged and made **publicly visible** right here on this Open Collective page. You will always know exactly where your money goes.
## Long-term vision
I want NyxOS to become a solid educational and functional reference for anyone who wants to learn how operating systems work from the inside out—completely free and open for everyone.
