Keep your account secure: Enable 2FA 🔐
Published on October 6, 2026 by Babette
As admins and contributors, you have access to important information on Open Collective. We strongly encourage everyone with this access to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to add an extra layer of security to your account.
Even if your password or email account is compromised, 2FA can help keep your Open Collective account protected.
How to enable 2FA
Dashboard → Settings → Security
You’ll need an authenticator method, such as:
- An authenticator app
- A YubiKey
- A fingerprint sensor
If you use an authenticator app, simply scan the QR code shown by Open Collective and enter the six-digit code generated by the app.
👉 Important: Once 2FA is set up, don’t delete the Open Collective entry from your authenticator app.
Keep your recovery codes safe
When you enable 2FA, Open Collective will provide you with recovery codes. These can be used if you lose access to your authenticator.
Please store them somewhere safe, ideally in your password manager. They are important for recovering your account.
Why are we encouraging this?
2FA is an important part of keeping your collective and the wider network secure. The more accounts with access to data that are protected, the better you can protect your funds, data, and community.
If you have any questions or run into problems setting it up, feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for helping keep our community secure!
Warm greetings,
All For Climate 🌻
