Recap EnviRights Training: Understanding Environmental Rights and Legal Protection
Published on September 29, 2026 by Babette
The first EnviRights training session took place on 22 September, introducing participants to the legal frameworks that protect environmental defenders and support environmental activism across Europe.
The session explored key rights under the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, including:
- freedom of expression
- assembly and association
- the Aarhus Convention and its three pillars: access to environmental information, public participation and access to justice.
Participants also looked at real legal cases and took part in a practical exercise on how to access environmental information from EU institutions.
The training provided useful tools and knowledge for environmental activists and organisations to better understand and exercise their rights.
👉 The next EnviRights session will focus on SLAPPs, legal risks and practical tools for environmental defenders on 5 October 2026. You can still register here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/4XlIaNOlST6kfGitsZvB0w
We are happy to share the slides and encourage everyone working on environmental and climate issues to make use of the knowledge and tools provided via the EnviRights programme.
Warmly,
