Chirp #4: Panels, Policies, and Progress
Published on February 8, 2026 by Joshua Strobl
Hey everyone!
Chirp #4 is now out. This week the team made progress across the board: Budgie 10 gains independent compositor theming so you can use GTK themes that lack Openbox support, Budgie 11's panel architecture continues to evolve with a new QML loader, and Magpie picks up configurable focus methods (click-to-focus, sloppy focus, and focus-and-raise).
We also gave the website a makeover with dedicated pages for Budgie Desktop's story, a refreshed organization page, and a comprehensive FAQ.
With a lot of the foundational work now in place, Evan, Neal, and I are meeting this week to start planning out priorities and next steps for budgie-shell and Magpie. Exciting times ahead!

Thanks as always for your support. It means a lot to the team and helps keep Budgie development moving forward.
