Returning to Active Development: My Journey and Future Plans
Published on May 15, 2025 by Arseny
Hello friends,
It's been nearly half a year since I last actively contributed to @neshca/cache-handler, and I feel it's important to share why I've been quiet and what the future holds for the project.
Earlier this year, my family and I faced a major life change—we relocated from Russia to Cyprus. My wife, a journalist working with an opposition media outlet, found herself in an increasingly unsafe environment. Due to her pregnancy and the birth of our wonderful son, we couldn't relocate sooner. Becoming parents has been the greatest joy of our lives, and it's been incredibly important for me to spend these precious early moments together.
During this time, I had to focus fully on supporting my family, finding a new job, and ensuring we settled comfortably in our new home. Thankfully, we've now found stability here in Cyprus, and I'm finally able to reconnect with my passion for open-source development.
It's been humbling to watch the @neshca/cache-handler project grow beyond my expectations, recently surpassing 100,000 weekly downloads on npm and attracting generous support through donations on Open Collective. I'm deeply grateful to everyone who's used, supported, and contributed to this project.
Moving forward, I'm excited to announce my return to active development! My immediate plan involves merging the significant improvements currently in my working branch, including better alignment with Next.js's "use cache" approach, optimized Redis support. Once this is complete, I'll start addressing community pull requests and issues step by step.
Donations received will help push the project further—I'm planning to acquire a dedicated domain to host comprehensive documentation and an insightful blog. Remaining funds will assist with future project needs and supporting my family.
On a personal note, although I'm currently employed at a private company developing an internal platform (which allows us to stay in Cyprus legally and comfortably), my long-term dream is to contribute to open source full-time. I firmly believe the future belongs to open-source software. If you share this vision or have opportunities aligned with this passion, please don't hesitate to reach out [email protected] or [email protected].
Thank you all once again for your patience, understanding, and support. I'm excited for what the future holds!
Special thanks to Igor, Johannes from Formbricks, Yusuke Ishida, and Kamil Piwko from betterplace.org for their donations!
Warm regards,
Arseny, the one and only Caching Tools contributor
