About

Join us for Night 1 of our second Free Palestine Film Festival in West Norwood upstairs at The Great North Wood (Over 18s only).

Our first film is the award winning Comrade Tambo’s London Recruits (2024)

Our theme this year is Interconnected Struggle and this amazing film depicts some of what it was like living under apartheid in South Africa in the 1960s and the importance of hope, and the role we can all play in fighting for justice and freedom.
Apartheid is defined as a crime against humanity under international law, which describes it as inhumane acts committed in the context of an institutionalised regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over another, with the intention of maintaining that regime.
Palestinians have been living under Israeli apartheid for decades. Nelson Mandela criticised Israel’s cooperation with the South African apartheid regime and its occupation of Arab territories. He famously said “Our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians”.

Comrade Tambo’s London Recruits tells the story of Londoners recruited in the 1960s to be freedom fighters during the South African apartheid. This is a true story and we are very lucky to have 2 of the recruits joining us for the Q&A session afterwards.

This film is rated 12A, and contains racially abusive language and aggression, moderate threat and injury detail and police violence.

Food and drinks will be available to buy from The Great North Wood on the evening.

6.30pm Doors Open
7.00pm Film Screening & Q&A

More information will be sent to all those who have signed up prior to the screening.

Any profits, once all film festival costs have been covered, will be split between our chosen Palestinian organisations (guided by artists involved) and West Norwood 4 Palestine.
