DWeb x g0v Local Network Workshop @ RightsCon

Around the world, authoritarian governments are shutting down the internet to control people’s access to information, and their ability to mobilize and sound the alarm about what’s happening in their region. In other parts of the world, internet access is severely restricted due to limited resources and geographic constraints. For these communities, local community networks are a lifeline.

Before RightsCon kicks off in Taiwan, DWeb and g0v are co-hosting a hands-on workshop on how to build community-driven local networks in the face of internet shutdowns. This workshop will dive deep into the core concepts of community networks, their technical setup, and how they’re making a difference in under-served communities worldwide.

Our experts will train community leaders, activists, technologists, and policymakers on how to set up resilient local networks — from their software and hardware components, funding models, policy challenges, and more. This workshop is being held ahead of RightsCon in Taipei, an international digital rights conference that brings over 3,000 attendees from around the world. These funds will go towards covering the costs of travel and labor for the trainers and facilitators, networking equipment, and other event logistics.
