Sunsetting Flatpak on Open Collective
Published on September 6, 2024 by Phaedrus Leeds
Hi,
As a result of Open Collective Foundation shutting down, we were faced with the decision of what to do with the Flatpak organization on Open Collective, which used OCF as its fiscal host. After discussion with the GNOME Foundation, they agreed to receive the remaining funds that were donated to Flatpak on Open Collective, and earmark them for use on Flatpak projects. The funds had to be distributed (or spent) before Open Collective Foundation completed its dissolution because it's not possible for them to be used after the OCF dissolution completed.
The GNOME Foundation already has been involved with supporting Flatpak and Flathub for years, and they seemed the most appropriate entity to steward these donated funds.
Thank you to everyone who donated to this project. I look forward to seeing Flatpak continue to grow and thrive.
