The webinar “Digital Independence of the State and Corporations in Kosovo” was held online on April 1 and brought together technology enthusiasts, professionals, and community members to discuss the importance of digital sovereignty and technological self-reliance.

The session was led by Agron Noka, a software engineer with decades of experience in software development, systems engineering, Linux technologies, networking, and IoT. Drawing from his extensive professional background, including his experience working with Microsoft’s Visual Studio team, Agron shared valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities surrounding digital independence.

The webinar focused on the growing dependence of public institutions and private organizations on foreign digital services and infrastructure. Participants explored how essential services such as healthcare, emergency response, telecommunications, internet services, and government institutions increasingly rely on technologies provided by international corporations.

A central theme of the discussion was the need to strengthen local technological infrastructure and develop sustainable alternatives capable of supporting critical services regardless of external circumstances. The webinar examined the potential risks associated with dependence on third-party providers and highlighted the importance of building resilient systems that can ensure continuity of essential services.

Throughout the session, participants engaged in discussions about digital sovereignty, local infrastructure development, open technologies, and the role of technical communities in supporting long-term technological sustainability. The webinar also provided an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between technology, public services, and national resilience in an increasingly digital world.

The event encouraged participants to think critically about the future of digital infrastructure in Kosovo and emphasized the importance of investing in local expertise, open technologies, and independent digital ecosystems. By bringing together community members and technology professionals, the webinar contributed to an important conversation about the role of technology in supporting reliable and sustainable public and private services.
