Budgets are one of the areas we see Collectives needing the most support with when preparing funding applications.

Join Duncan for a practical session on how to put together a clear, realistic and funder-friendly budget.

We’ll cover:
  • what funders expect to see in a good budget
  • common budgeting challenges and mistakes to avoid
  • making sure your budget tells the same story as your funding application
  • showing income, expenditure and other sources of funding clearly
  • including costs such as the Gift Collective 8% fundholding fee
  • creating a budget that is realistic and easy for a funder to understand
Following the webinar, we’ll also provide Collectives with a budget template that you can use when developing project budgets and future funding applications.

Our Guest Speaker
Duncan Matthews – Good Numbers and Rule Foundation 
Duncan has been looking after the numbers for a range of community organisations for the past 15 years. He has also worked with several philanthropic foundations, reviewing more than 1,000 budgets during that time.
In 2025, Duncan led the development of a new budget template for Foundation North.
Today, Duncan works on Good Numbers, a social enterprise developing a cash book app for small organisations, alongside free, practical resources to help community groups feel more confident managing their finances.
