This year I've been doing te reo Māori classes, and it's been a huge learning curve – one that I'm absolutely loving! I figure one of the best ways to learn is to start using it in everyday conversations, so I'm making a conscious effort to do just that, as is our whole team. And ka rawe to all our Collectives who are on this journey too! We tautoko you. Even the odd kupu here and there is a great place to start. Every little bit counts, and we're all learning together. So, ngā mihi nui to you all for embracing te reo Māori, giving it a go and supporting each other along the way. If you have any pātai (questions) about Gift Collective, want to have a kōrero (chat) about something, or would simply like to find out more about how we can support your mahi, please get in touch. We're always happy to hear from you. There's plenty happening at Gift Collective, and this month we've got a new team member to introduce, a few useful reminders, and some resources and opportunities to share.
Nau mai, haere mai, Nettie!
We're delighted to welcome Nettie Stow, our new Grants Coordinator, to the Gift Collective team! Based in Te Tau Ihu, Nettie brings a wealth of experience in community funding, philanthropy and project development. Her background includes working in not-for-profits, leading a community foundation, serving on funding distribution committees, and working alongside community organisations, iwi and marae. Nettie particularly enjoys helping people turn their ideas into reality, supporting groups to shape their projects and build strong foundations for their kaupapa. She also has a real interest in meaningful reporting that captures impact, celebrates achievements and helps projects grow. Nettie will be reviewing funding applications and helping to fine tune the process as we are growing. We're really pleased to have Nettie on board and know she'll be a wonderful support to our Collectives. Nau mai, haere mai, Nettie!
Funding Application Deadlines A Friendly Reminder!
Please send all funding applications for review to [email protected]. This inbox is monitored by our whole team, so your application will be picked up by the right person.
We need to receive your application at least one week before the funder's deadline.
This gives us time to review your application, provide feedback, make any necessary changes, gather supporting documents and manage the inevitable back and forth to get everything submitted on time.
*Please note: Applications received less than one week before the deadline will not be able to be submitted by Gift Collective or should not be submitted by your collective.
Thanks for helping us make the process as smooth as possible for everyone!
Using Humanitix for your events?
We know many of our Collectives use Humanitix to manage ticketing for events, and it's a great tool for doing just that.
If you're already using Humanitix, or planning an event and would like to use it, please get in touch with us so we can help get everything set up correctly.
Having the correct information with them helps our team identify payments as they come into Gift Collective and make sure they're allocated to the correct Collective. We've been working with the Humanitix support team to make this process easier.
It's a small step that makes a big difference behind the scenes. Email [email protected]
We're updating our Funding Guide and we'd love your feedback!
The funding landscape is constantly changing, and we want to make sure our Funding Guide continues to be a useful, practical resource for all our Collectives.
We're currently reviewing and updating the guide, and we'd really appreciate your input.
Is there anything missing that you'd find helpful?
Are there areas you'd like more information or guidance on?
Is there anything in the current guide that could be clearer?
Are there useful resources or tips you'd like us to include?
Whether you're new to funding applications or have been writing them for years, we'd love to hear your thoughts. Your feedback will help us make the guide even more useful and accessible for everyone navigating the sometimes challenging world of community funding.

Help us spread the word about Gift Collective!
Do you know another grassroots group, community project or bunch of passionate people doing great mahi who could benefit from Gift Collective?
We'd love you to tell them about us! We have Gift Collective posters and flyers available and would be very happy to send some your way.
If you've got a community noticeboard, shared workspace, local library, community centre or another place where you could put up a poster or leave a few flyers, please let us know.
Word of mouth is one of the best ways for us to reach groups who might not know that fundholding is an option for them.
Thanks for helping us connect with more amazing community initiatives across Aotearoa.
Finally….housekeeping…(the thing we don’t necessarily like doing, but keeps the mahi and the whanau running smoothly)
Expenses: Please submit and approve expenses by Tuesday so they can be processed on Wednesday and paid on Thursday.
Funding applications: Keep a record of your upcoming funding dates and get applications to us at least one week before the closing date.
And please keep your Collective page up to date - it helps funders, supporters and others see the wonderful mahi you’re doing.
