MI Bon Summer Festival 2022: a new Michigan celebration of Japanese tradition with Taiko drumming, festival music, and folk dancing!
Saturday, September 24th, 3-5pm EDT

(postponed from 8/20 due to weather)
Novi Public Library
(45255 W 10 Mile Rd, Novi, MI 48375) outdoor patio

The Novi Public Library invites you to join in the fun of the 2nd annual MI Bon Festival in Novi, Michigan. In partnership with the Great Lakes Taiko Center (GLTC), MI Bon (“My” Michigan Bon) is a Michigan celebration of the Japanese Bon Festival, or Obon, a summer cultural tradition from Japan which is shared around the world as a time to honor the spirits of our ancestors and to celebrate life in community through song and dance.

Guests will have a chance to experience the spirited drumming (Taiko) of the GLTC performing groups and learn the folk dancing (Bon odori) that goes along with traditional Bon music. Come as you are or don your favorite festive wear for this casual summer outdoor gathering (traditional Obon costumes include Japanese Yukata summer kimonos or Happi coat jackets).

Event is outdoors and subject to cancellation in case of inclement weather.
Weather cancellation will be announced by 10am on 9/24, on our website & FB, and registrants will be notified. > Link to register for this event with Novi Public Library

This family-friendly and free event is sponsored by the Novi Rotary.

Dear MI Bon friends,

We have decided to cancel today's 8/20 event due to the afternoon thunderstorm forecast and postpone #MIBON2022 to the Rain Date of SAT September 24th.

This decision was not easy to realize, and certainly a disappointment for all, but made out of respect to our public audience, library host, GLTC performers, and mother nature.

Thank you all for your understanding, apologies for any inconveniences, and may you still find ways to celebrate this weekend!
