 Headent Client 1.0.4 is out — the release that adds recording. Until now the app could only play back recordings that already existed on your Tvheadend server, and that was the biggest gap left.

You can now schedule and cancel a recording from the programme guide, from a channel's programme detail, or from the player itself, stop running recordings, and delete finished ones from the archive — on phones and on Android TV. Recording badges show whether a programme is recording, already recorded or merely scheduled, and channels currently being recorded are marked with a red dot. A DVR profile can be chosen for each server, or left to the server to decide.

For set-top boxes, the app can now start with the channel or radio station you were last watching, with the full channel list and groups loaded, so it comes back where you left off. Radio can be filtered by tag, and the last selected group is remembered separately for TV and radio.

Radio and TV are now told apart by DVB service type rather than by tag names, the same way Kodi's pvr.hts does it, so the split works regardless of what language your tags are in. The app also sends its language preference for the EPG, which fixes cases where users saw sparse OTA text while Kodi showed their richer XMLTV data.

Fixes in this release:
  • Seeking in archive recordings — the clock and progress bar could fall back to zero after a jump.
  • Matroska recordings played as a black screen; the app no longer forces the MPEG-TS demuxer on every recording.
  • Recording was unavailable over HTTP because the server returns access rights as numbers rather than a list.
  • HDR switching is now off by default — automatic refresh-rate changes happen seamlessly, without an HDMI re-sync.
  • A crash after reinstalling the app, caused by the encrypted settings file outliving its Keystore key.

The gap since the last release was longer than usual — partly work, partly deliberate. From here releases will come more slowly, with the focus on stability and correctness rather than a long changelog. Quality over quantity.
