🎉 Yay to member-owned tech platforms! 🎉
Help us launch Henhouse web hosting! We are raising $5,000 to cover a few essentials:
- Legal filing: Incorporating as a New York cooperative corporation and finalizing our governance documents with legal review from actual lawyers
- Infrastructure: Leasing production servers with an independent VPS provider (non-US jurisdiction, no Big Tech clouds, renewable energy)
- Marketing: Website creation, marketing consultant, raising awareness
- Development: Finishing the site management web portal, billing system, and customer onboarding flow
$5,000 is a modest ask by design. We know how to stretch a dollar. Every contribution goes directly to getting Henhouse into the hands of its first member-owners.
What is Henhouse?
If you care about things like privacy, market competition, corporate welfare, and the surveillance economy, your website is probably hosted by a corporation that doesn't share your values. Henhouse wants to change that.
Henhouse Computing Cooperative is a member-owned web hosting service. We provide simple, reliable static website hosting, but with one key difference: the people who use Henhouse will own Henhouse.
We're a worker cooperative (Limeleaf) building Henhouse as a consumer cooperative. That means every member will get one vote in how the service is run, a share of any profits, and a say in what we build next. No bosses. No shadowy money men. No icky Big Tech infrastructure under the hood. Just regular folks cooperating to take back the Internet.
Our first product is straightforward: static site hosting with an S3-compatible API, automatic TLS/SSL certificates, custom domain support, and multi-site management — all for just $8/month per site, with a 10% discount for member-owners.
We've drafted our Operating Agreement and Membership Agreement, built the core technical architecture, and are heading into beta testing with founding members soon. Public launch is planned for Q2 2026.
