Publication on "Citizen-Generated Data initiatives"
Published on April 24, 2022 by Sebastian Klemm

Dear supporters & community,
learn about the ambitious project whereby the regional government of Catalonia wants to become the focal point of an open data ecosystem.

BECAUSE
... we run weekly bilateral meetings with each Proofing Future member, we were able to pick up on a fleeting sidenote about Ideas for Change' research study:

Promoted by the Secretariat of Open Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Ideas for Change conducted a study to support the Mapping of Citizen-Generated Data Cases and Actors for the Project "Catalunya, un País de Dades" (Catalunya Country of Data).

INTERVIEW
We picked up and leveraged this opportunity, adding to the reach for Ideas for Change corresponding expertise through initiating an interview publication about their study' findings:
"We have developed a taxonomy that can basically be applied to describe any citizen-generated data effort," emphasizes Giovanni Maccani, senior researcher at Ideas for Change, in our interview.

ESSENCE
Exploring 50+ citizen-generated data initiatives for Catalonia, Ideas for Change derived a study & taxonomy around three main classes of outcomes:
  1. Citizen-generated data that directly informs public policy
  2. Citizen-generated data for science & research knowledge discovery
  3. Citizen-generated data to raise awareness about topics that are either neglected or underrepresented in public debates
