Peatlands Hold Stories. And the Future
Published on February 21, 2025 by RE-PEAT Admin

Peatlands are ancient, living archives—holding the traces of time, whispering tales about past, present and future. They are places of deep memory, of connection, of resilience.

They are also among the most powerful life-support systems on Earth. Peatlands store more carbon than all the world’s forests combined. They hold and filter freshwater, shaping the flow of life. They are home to rare and wondrous species that live in and on their soggy soils.

And yet, peatlands are disappearing—drained, extracted, and destroyed. Not valued for what they are, only for what they could be when not there.

At RE-PEAT, we believe in shifting the narratives around peatlands, towards a narrative where peatlands are valued, worthy of care. We do the deep work of changing the perceptions that lie beneath day to day behaviours and policies.

Through art, activism, and deep inquiry, we work to protect peatlands as living, breathing entities. Such that peatlands and the multi-species communities that live with them, may thrive.

With your support, we can deepen this work

A donation is more than financial support—it is a gesture of solidarity, a way of becoming part of new peatland stories. Your contribution allows us to:

  • Hold space for new narratives
    • through art, storytelling, and collective exploration.
  • Advocate for just transitions
    • ensuring a systemic change, that honours both peatlands and their communities
  • Defend peatlands as climate heroes
    • pushing for peat-free policies and systemic change.
  • Create deep, cultural shifts
    • Inviting people and communities to relate to peatlands as kin

Like layers of peat holding ancient stories, your support builds something lasting - protecting landscapes, nurturing creativity, and amplifying voices for change."
