Our progress so far
Published on August 17, 2022 by Ami Tesfaye

Dear Supporters,

We are proud of the tremendous progress we have made in our first year, and we're grateful to you for being a part of Seattle Literacy!

Who we are:
Seattle Literacy is an all-volunteer group of instructors providing free language and reading classes especially for students who want extra help learning to read and write in English. We specialize in teaching adults with limited literacy skills, regardless of their English level.

What we've accomplished so far:

January 2022
  • Began organizing as a community
  • Started a "mobile classroom" teaching four adult students in various locations
February
  • Launched Open Collective platform
  • Began fundraising and searching for a fixed location
  • Enrolled two new students
March
  • Located a classroom space and finalized plans for occupancy
April
  • Moved into new classroom space and began renovations
  • Added a second class and enrolled five new students
May
  • Completed renovations and started plans to expand our class offerings
June
  • Enrolled four new students
July, August, and beyond
  • Began preparing for our fall term, when we will offer five classes, as well as individual tutoring sessions for students with unique learning goals
  • Enrolled ten new students. We have now enrolled 25 students and placement meetings are ongoing. We have also referred multiple students to other organizations that can better meet their learning needs.
We're looking forward to a busy and exciting autumn. Thank you again for your support.
