Spring st. Co-op, we got through round 1 of the city council

Dear co-op supporter,
Born from a community of love and a fighting spirit, we are on the cusp of making the Spring Street Co-op a reality! We have spent countless hours dreaming together at 207 N Spring St. We have done everything from cleaning to researching to fundraising and more in order to line up this first of its kind truly and permanently affordable housing democratically owned and operated by Winston-Salem residents. Just one thing has stood in our way: a 23-year-old debt to the city held by its previous owner. But, big news, we just cleared a major hurdle in that process.
Today, the City Council's Community Development subcommittee advanced our request for loan forgiveness to the full City Council. By a 3-0 vote (with one abstension), they have recommended that our project move forward! On September 3rd, we hope to secure the final vote to clear the debt, finish our purchase, and begin renovations on this historic housing co-operative.
We need YOU to join us in the work that it will take to finish making this dream a reality! Please share our Open Collective page (https://opencollective.com/spring-street-co-op) with others and go to bit.ly/JOINHJN if you want to become an active member of our co-op working team!
In solidarity,
Spring Street Co-op
