✨ A Beautiful Prize From Nablus, Palestine ✨
Published on December 6, 2024 by Emma
🪡 This Kufiya with Tatreez (a traditional form of Palestinian embroidery using symbols and patterns to tell stories and express identity) from Zeina of @kaf_of_palestine has been beautifully hand-embroidered at a small factory in Nablus and could be yours as part of our Raffle In Solidarity With Palestine.
🧵 Artisans from the Bedouin community have hand-stitched their love of their land by colourfully embroidering the names of towns and villages in Palestine along the edge of the Kufiya. As Zeina says “they stitch their souls into these items”.
❤️ Zeina herself is not only a stunning storyteller and human but has curated a selection of Palestinian garments and crafts to share the story of her hometown of Nablus and beyond.
🇵🇸 The small factory in Nablus that Zeina partners with resumed its Kufiya manufacturing after almost 30 years. The owner used to make Kufiyas in secret and smuggle them to the streets of the West Bank during the first Palestinian Intifada (uprising), when Palestinian flags were banned.
This Kufiya represents existence, resistance and open, proud solidarity.
✊ Zeina also co-runs @parentsforpalestine and @dabkehgathers_pal <how does she do it all you ask? I don’t know - she’s amazing!!> and, when speaking at our local Palestine Free Film Festival (@westnorwoodpalestinefilmfest), she totally captivated the audience speaking about the importance of visibly showing up and showing solidarity with Palestine - and that starts with wearing a Kufiya.
As a proud Palestinian, Zeina made clear how much it means to see people wearing these on the streets and in communities.
🎟️ Tickets are £2.50 each and you could be in with a chance of owning this beautiful Kufiya - just head to our bio/website 🎟️
And even if you don’t win this gorgeous Kufiya, head to @kaf_of_palestine to purchase Kufiyas, t-shirts with Tatreez and other crafts for yourself and your loved ones too
❤️💚🖤🤍
All profits from our raffle go to @childrennotnumbers
