Thank you for your financial support of theATL.social - 2024 Year in Review
Published on November 25, 2024 by Michael Handelman

Dear theATL.social Financial Contributors:

As we enter the holiday season, I want to thank each of you for your financial contributions to theATL.social. The services provided by theATL.social would not exist without your support, and for that, I am extraordinarily appreciative.

If you haven't done so already, please visit https://members.theatl.social to take advantage of your financial contributor benefits, which include email forwarding, access to theATL.social's Discord channel, and email forwarding from your Mastodon screen name to an email address of your choice.

And special thanks to @DecaturNature, who has served as the welcoming committee for new users, and served as moderator.

Your financial contributions have supported:
  • The establishment of theATL.social's BlueSky Personal Data Server
  • The ongoing (and reliable!) operations of theATL.social's Mastodon service, including the upgrade to Mastodon 4.3.x
  • The Lemmy (Reddit alternative) yall.theatl.social server's operations.
  • The email service that provides the confirmation, status update, and password retrieval emails.
  • Business operations overhead (license, PO Box, etc.)

With an upcoming political situation in the United States where freedom of expression is coming under question, the need for decentralized social media has never been more important. Accordingly, I am proud that the services provided by theATL.social can continue to serve as an independent forum for discussion on topics related to Atlanta, Georgia, the US, and/or any other topic of interest!

So, what's coming for 2025?
  • Expanding member benefits for financial contributors: rate limits on Mastodon, and more to come!
  • Reviewing and re-editing the https://join.theatl.social page to reflect current services and provide a more coherent signup experience.
  • Expanding our active membership base beyond our current 80-90 active members to build community and provide a stronger base for financial contributors.
  • Continuing to identify financial efficiencies to ensure that a reliable service can be provided at the lowest possible cost.
  • Actively listening to you, the members of theATL.social to ensure that the services provided match your interests and communications preferences.
  • More (good) surprises with features and enhancements!

On the financial side, we are getting closer to profitability - but aren't quite there yet. However, through the steps above, I am confident that we can meet the mark in 2025 to make it happen.

Thank you for your trust, advice, and again for your financial support. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions, suggestions, and feedback.

Happy holidays,

Michael Handelman
