Free Shop Expansion Update
Published on October 23, 2023 by Trev FM
We haven’t posted an update in a couple of months because we have been hard at work on this project. In that time we moved the free store from the church pantry and needing volunteers to deliver food to the pantry, distribute food, and manage orders, to a hands free model where no volunteers, no additional space, and no inventory needs to be stocked. We use the existing space and staff at Miguel’s Latin Market to manage Free Orders. We have also expanded the pickup days from just Sunday to Everyday!
We have now reached a critical stage and sent out our first direct mailers that will go out to 500 neighbors in the community with each run. The first run will start and end this week. The idea is that over the next 8 weeks we slowly work our way towards 20% engagement on our free vouchers and in support of our sponsors who will during the course of the 8 weeks support the free lunches and groceries.
Until then we/us/friends and family will be flipping the bill for the lunches and groceries. This is where we need your help. If you can contribute as little as $5 to our open collective page it will not only continue to buy lunch or groceries for our neighbors, but go towards supporting our target goal of 100 free shoppers a week! And at the end of the 8 weeks we can start the transition towards a largely local business supported model.
Please contribute what you can!
Thank you and love you all!
