We hope that this letter finds you happy and healthy! Before we delve into an update on mutual aid activities, we wanted to express our solidarity with the Palestinian uprising and resistance. Mutual aid is inherently tied to the resistance of settler colonialism, capitalist exploitation, land degradation, and oppression in Palestine, on Turtle Island (the lands of North America), and globally. We encourage our volunteers and contributors to read more about the Palestinian struggle for liberation and to attend any protests that are in support of a free Palestine. Follow organizations like the Palestinian Youth Movement (@palestinianyouthmovement on Instagram), Eyes on Palestine (@eyes.on.palestine), and Visualizing Palestine (@visualizing_palestine) to stay informed about how to join existing Palestinian and solidarity organizations and to support Palestine’s popular resistance.

In partnership with the DC Diaper Bank, the DC Mutual Aid Network is bringing diapers to neighbors. As a result, Ward 2 Mutual Aid will be able to distribute 10,000 diapers per month to neighbors. If you are interested in supporting this effort via packing, sorting, distributing or remote coordination, please complete this interest form.

Since October, Ward 2 Mutual Aid and the People for Fairness Coalition have been organizing to visit our unhoused neighbors in Foggy Bottom every Friday. We offer basic toiletries and snacks, take requests for special items people need, and build relationships between neighbors.

Participate in Direct Action + Follow Us on Social Media!

Volunteer with us virtually or in-person this summer! We are looking for volunteers to get involved with encampment outreach, grocery/diaper distribution, communications/fundraising efforts, and emergency hotline services. If you’re interested in any of these modes of direct action, please fill out this interest form. We are holding an all-hands call and onboarding meeting for all volunteers on Monday, June 28. Additional meeting materials and details will be sent out in the coming weeks!

Defund MPD is requesting volunteers to phone bank DC residents in an effort to defund the Metropolitan Police Department and reinvest in the DC community. Volunteers will be calling DC residents across Wards 2 and 3 to build pressure on the council members with the most control over the police budget: the Judiciary Committee members. ¡Esperamos que se encuentre sano y salvo! Antes de continuar con los detalles de nuestro apoyo mutuo, queremos expresar que estamos en solidaridad con la resistencia y el levantamiento en Palestina. El apoyo mutuo está vinculado por naturaleza con la resistencia al colonialismo, a la explotación capitalista, a la degradación de la tierra, y a la opresión en Palestina, en la Isla Tortuga (la tierra de Norte América) y por todo el mundo. Animamos a nuestros voluntarios y colaboradores a que lean más sobre la lucha Palestina para liberación y a que vayan a cualquier protesta a favor de la liberación Palestina. Desde octubre, el grupo de Apoyo Mutuo de Ward 2 (Ward 2 Mutual Aid) y La Coalición del Pueblo para la Justicia (People for Fairness Coalition) se han estado organizando todos los viernes para visitar a nuestros vecinos sin hogar en Foggy Bottom. Ofrecemos artículos básicos de higiene personal y meriendas, tomamos pedidos de cosas especiales que la gente necesita, y desarrollamos relaciones entre vecinos.

Desfinanciar MPD (Defund MPD) busca voluntarios que puedan llamar a residentes de nuestra ciudad para lograr el desfinanciamiento del departamento de policía de DC y poder usar ese dinero para reinvertir en nuestra comunidad. Voluntarios llamarán a residentes en Ward 2 y 3 para aumentar la presión a los miembros del municipio quienes tienen la mayoría del poder con respeto al presupuesto policial: los miembros del Comité Judicial.
