Is a makerspace membership required in addition to studio space?

Published on March 26, 2026 by Eric Spehr

Yes. To maintain your private studio space we will ask you also stay a member of 10Bit in one of the main tiers. Note - You do not have to be a current member to reserve and place a deposit for the future facility...

About

Over A Decade of Making in San Antonio.
10Bitworks began its journey in 2010, rooted in a vision to create a unique space in San Antonio where innovators, technologists, and creatives could gather to bring their ideas to life. Originally known as a "hackerspace," we've always been a hub for those driven by curiosity, whether their projects were practical, experimental, or just for fun.
As our community grew and diversified, so did our focus. In 2014, we proudly evolved our identity to a "makerspace." This shift truly captured our commitment to a wider array of creative crafts and tools, moving beyond electronics and technology to embrace woodworking, metalworking, textiles, ceramics, and much more. This evolution solidified our role as San Antonio's most comprehensive hands-on workshop, a place where any idea can find its form.

Our Mission:

Empowering Makers, Enriching San Antonio.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, 10Bitworks is formed "exclusively for educational purposes" and dedicated to "instruction of the public on subjects useful to individuals and beneficial to the community." This means every piece of equipment, every shared skill, and every project completed here contributes directly to the growth of individuals and the vibrancy of San Antonio, Texas.
We believe in empowering our residents by providing:
  • Accessible Tools: From our 3d printers, and powerful CNC machine to specialized welding gear, glass blowing setups, and robust woodworking equipment, we provide the means to create almost anything.
  • Hands-On Learning: A space where theory meets practice, enabling practical problem-solving and skill mastery.
  • An Authentic Community: A diverse and supportive network of fellow makers eager to share knowledge, inspire new ideas, and collaborate.
  • A Unique Outlet: For San Antonians to explore creativity, pursue hobbies, and even develop skills for professional growth.

Our Unique Personality:

Gritty, Resourceful, and Real.
At 10Bitworks, we're not about pristine showrooms or overly polished aesthetics. We're a gritty, working workshop – a place where sawdust flies, sparks might (safely!) glow, and projects get built with real effort and dedication. Our strength lies in our comprehensive collection of tools, the sheer breadth of what you can create here, and the genuine spirit of our members.
We're proud to be a truly member-supported space, fostering an environment of self-reliance and shared gumption. You'll find a welcoming atmosphere where seasoned pros mentor ambitious beginners, and complex challenges are often solved through a few questions with like-minded individuals. Here, you're encouraged to dive in, learn by doing, and transform your vision into reality.
