One of the fundamental concerns of the Academic Family Tree is that it remain a space that's free of the clutter and information commoditization that seems to have swallowed much of the Internet. To that end, we approached the idea of asking for donations with some trepidation. However, if this project is going to last, it has to shift from being a few people's labor of love to something with a broad community of supporters. Thanks so much to those of you who have contributed! This model of flexible voluntary donations seems to work smoothly. It's a promising start to stabilizing the project without changing its character or content.
