ACT OCF Update
Published on March 15, 2024 by Matthew Zagaja

Hello friends and supporters. As you may have heard, the Open Collective Foundation (OCF) is winding down their operations this year, including their fiscal sponsorship of Collectives like the Alliance of Civic Technologists. We’re grateful for the support of OCF since our founding, and the support they have given to volunteer groups and projects across the civic technology ecosystem for many years. They have helped many worthwhile efforts get off the ground, and while their dissolution is regrettable, we understand their reasoning and wish them the best.

There are a few steps to OCF’s staged dissolution that affect ACT: The first is that ACT will no longer be able to take donations as of March 15, 2024. This includes recurring donations, which will be paused automatically. We will have until September 30, 2024 to make arrangements for the use or transfer of the funds we currently have. We have been exploring a number of options for our organization as we move forward, including a move to a new fiscal sponsor and then forming our own non-profit entity. We expect to make a decision in the coming days, and we’ll keep you all posted as we progress, including guidance on the best way to resume donations.

Thanks again for all of your support in our mission to give back to our local communities by connecting and growing civic tech volunteerism. If you have any questions, comments, thoughts, or just want to say hi, please send us an email at [email protected]
