Affordable Connectivity: A Community-Focused ISP
PROJECT
Fiscal Host: Gift Collective
Working collaboratively towards what a Social Impact ISP might look like.

About
Addressing the need - an affordable internet connection for whānau.
At present, there are a small number of internet retail service providers willing to facilitate the provision of low-cost broadband internet plans. The Manaiakalani initiative (an extension to the MoE programme) was extended, but moved from a free service to a user pay service and only offered to those whānau still connected in August 2024.
So, what about the rest of the whānau who are still excluded from having a home broadband internet connection?
The Social Impact ISP rōpū and DECA Kaihautū Māori have agreed to collaborate in partnership to address affordable connectivity in Aotearoa through the design and implementation phases of developing a social enterprise to address this need.
This Social Impact ISP will look to other industries and initiatives such as power providers Nau Mai Ra, Electric Kiwi and Toast Electric.
Lee Timutimu will be heading up this mahi on behalf of OUR NET - the Social Impact ISP rōpū and liaising with Kaihautū Māori and DECA as the project progresses.
