Affordable Connectivity - Whānau Support

Whānau Contribution Support Fund
This project has been set up to support whānau who are not able to afford the cost of a broadband internet plan and require financial support to access the subsidised broadband internet connections being offered by Manaiakalani (MET) following the end of the MoE service on 15 July 2024.

All funds from this project will be used to assist the weekly or fortnightly whānau contribution payments to maintain their internet service with MET.

MoE Equitable digital access: Internet for home ends
As part of the government’s COVID response, the Ministry of Education worked with internet providers to connect students and enable them to learn remotely. At it's peak it reached up to 40,000 households | 145,000 students.

DECA would like to thank all the people at MoE and Manaiakalani for their work during this initiative.

Unfortunately, the MoE have had to end this service following 4 extensions since the original offering during the pandemic. 

This free service will end 15 July 2024 and a new paid internet connection is being offered to whānau. Whānau who are in fibre or ADSL/VDSL service regions will be offered a $4 per week | $17 per month plan to continue to receive their current service.

Unfortunately, the cost of other services, such as, some fixed wireless, rural broadband and satellite plans will be priced at a higher rate due to higher service costs.
