About

This project—currently called “Codeweave”—is a collaboration between Algorave India and the code.drift collective. It brings together 10 original tracks of algorithmic music with 10 generative zines, each created using creative coding tools like p5.js.

The zines are being made by visual artists from code.drift, working closely with the musicians from Algorave India. The project builds on code.drift’s approach of blending coding with local, everyday experiences, and aims to explore how music and visuals can grow together through collaboration.

Released under the label - Antariksh Records, at its heart, this project is about celebrating experimental work in music and art, supporting new voices in India’s creative coding scene, and creating something that lasts—both online and in the form of printed zines and physical releases.

Project Overview

Algorave India and code.drift community has been nurturing live-coding and algorithmic music in South Asia since 2018 and 2022 respectively, blending performance, workshops, and community building to turn code into cultural practice.

Our compilation will feature 10 tracks of live-coded music—crafted in environments like TidalCycles, SuperCollider, Hydra, and Sonic Pi—and 10 generative zines co-created in p5.js by visual artists alongside each musician.

We plan to release the package digitally and on tactile media (physical pendrive, printed zines), reflecting the raw, unpredictable spirit of live coding.

Antariksh Records is an electronic music record label and collective based out of Delhi, India. Established in 2018, the label is dedicatedly working towards the propagation and curation of quality dance music in the South Asian subcontinent. The label's approach of giving a platform to emerging talents from the region and curating quality releases by little-known yet talented homegrown acts has fast attracted attention for itself.

Why This Matters

  • Decentering Western Narratives: Algorithmic music has long been dominated by Western voices; by showcasing Indian artists, we challenge this imbalance and broaden the global soundscape
  •  Community & Capacity Building: Through open tutorials, live-coding videos, and code snippets, we’ll extend the code.drift toolkit and inspire new makers across India—mirroring successful outcomes seen in code.drift’s Jaipur workshops
  •  Tangible Legacy: Printed zines and pen drives create physical archives—vital for documenting this moment of South Asian tech-art evolution for future generations
  •  Educational Impact: code.drift’s beginner-friendly ethos (“no coding experience required”) ensures these resources lower barriers and invite diverse participation

Outputs & Milestones

  • 10 algorithmic tracks, mastered and ready for release
  • 10 code.drift-inspired generative zines, blending city sensibilities and p5.js art
  • Physical editions: limited-run pen-drive with bonus bundles and printed zines
  • Launch event: hybrid showcase with live-coding sets, artist talks, and zine exhibition
  • Open educational resources: process documentation, open-source software and patch of the work.

Behind the Screens

Funding Needs & Impact

We’re seeking ₹3.5 lakhs (~$4000) to cover: artist honoraria, mixing & mastering, media production, printing, documentation, and outreach.

Your support will:

  1. Empower 20 Indian artists financially and creatively.
  2. Strengthen the code.drift & Algorave India ecosystems, forging lasting ties between music, visual art, and urban contexts.
  3. Archive a landmark cultural moment, ensuring South Asian contributions to algorithmic art endure.
