Neighborhood Solidarity
Published on May 1, 2020 by Kieryn Darkwater

We are the people who live on Alice Street. We have all traversed radically different paths but somehow wound up sharing this lovely little corner of Oakland. Some of us have lived here for decades and others have lived here for days, but all of us are being impacted by the pandemic so Alice Street Mutual Aid was born.

Practicing social distancing or self-isolation doesn’t mean we have to face the impacts of this crisis alone. We can all support each other, pool our resources and abilities, and get through this challenging time by coming together (but 6’ apart) as a community.

Alice Street Mutual Aid exists as a community hub and resource network to provide as many resources and mutual aid as we (neighbors) have the capacity for. We are volunteering our time and energy to work on organizing direct support like:

  • A phone tree for checking in on each other
  • Grocery/Supply runs
  • Financial Assistance*
  • Strike Solidarity
  • Online tutoring/childcare
  • Other things!

Fill out this form to get involved and this form to request support.

* Our ability to provide financial assistance and maintain our infrastructure (twilio for the phone tree, the costs of this website, etc) currently relies on the donations of neighbors who are able to give. To support ASMA financially you can set up a donation on Open Collective.

We are neighbors and we are all stronger together. Welcome home.
