About

Amin Nozmul Islam (Artist name: Shams Qabid), is an Indian musician, independent photographer, and filmmaker from Guwahati, Assam. Through his music, he sheds light on the struggles of the marginalized Bengali-origin Muslim community (Miya's) in Assam, many of whom reside along the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries. This community faces recurring challenges such as floods, river erosion, cyclones, and issues related to citizenship and identity, including D-voter status. Displacement due to natural calamities often exacerbates their socio-political struggles.

Amin’s work not only amplifies these stories but also contributes to the archiving of folk tunes from Northeast India. As an artist, he has performed across various locations in India, bringing attention to these pressing issues through his music. In addition to his musical endeavors, he is an independent photographer and filmmaker, capturing the lives and narratives of his people.
