H2 2025 Review
Published on March 24, 2026 by Christoph Ono

Picking up where our H1 2025 update left off, we’d like to share an update on what has happened since then.

We mentioned in the previous update that a 5-year report for the Bitcoin Design Community was in the works. It was released over summer. If you have not seen it yet, take a look here.

On the administrative side, Daniel has decided to step back from this role in the foundation. He will continue to be a close friend and be around the ecosystem. He simply wants to focus more on his interests as a builder. Huge thanks to Daniel for helping set up and shape the foundation in such a meaningful way

On the grantee side, we have Erik, Yashraj, and Mogashni all continuing their work across the ecosystem, from ecash to privacy technologies to user research and community efforts. See their general focus in the previous update, and we’ll share a few updates on their work here.
  • Erik designed the numopay.org website and core UX for Numo, including an Apple Action Button shortcut that mimics Apple Pay for Cashu payments. He also vibe-coded a Cashu wallet into Bitchat and presented the project at Bitcoin Presidio Design Week, while deepening his familiarity with CDK bindings to make Cashu more accessible across products. Additionally, Erik led Nut November, the first-ever Cashu hackathon. He handled the website, brand identity, and organization, which resulted in 23 submissions, including 12 from first-time contributors.
  • Yashraj dug into payjoin UX issues, diagnosed key problems, developed solutions, and shared findings openly with the Bitcoin community. He also contributed UX feedback on silent payments to the Cake Wallet team, which made its way into their app redesign. Looking ahead, he's focused on elevating the role of design in Bitcoin privacy, an area he sees as critically underserved and increasingly urgent.
  • Over the past year, Mogashni has been working at the intersection of Bitcoin UX design and research through her role at the Bitcoin Design Foundation. She led UX education initiatives in Africa and South America, and in activist communities. Through research, she also identified five bitcoin user archetypes. On the project side, she now leads "Between Us," a user story bank collecting real stories from people around the world using Bitcoin daily. She has also been intentionally positioning herself at the intersection of AI, Bitcoin, and UX research and building skills in AI-assisted research workflows and beginning to speak publicly about agentic workflows for bitcoin builders.

Looking ahead, take a peek at the community blog post on 2026 Impact Initiatives. These are going to be a central focus over the first half of the year. If you would like to champion one of these, you are welcome to reach out to us or Spiral. As noted above, Mogashni is already leading the “Humans of bitcoin/Between Us” initiative, and Christoph is championing the reference wallet initiative with his work on Arké and Bitcoin Core App.

For information about new and ongoing partnerships, please follow the Bitcoin Design newsletter or join Discord.

The foundation would also like to thank those who supported it, since its inception we have  received donations from:
  • Spiral
  • Human Rights Foundation (HRF)
  • Chaincode Labs
