H1 2025 review
Published on August 14, 2025 by Christoph Ono

The first half of the year has already flown past. Here’s a brief look at what happened.

We are pleased to continue supporting the work of the following grantees who continue to champion various efforts. Renewals went out to: :
  • Erik who continues his work championing ecash and contributing to various community initiatives.
  • Yashraj who continues to push adoption of privacy technologies, focusing on Silent Payments and Payjoin.
  • Mogashni has several roles, from championing user research, to helping organize the community and events, and administering the foundation.

It can be hard to follow along the work of grantees, so we asked them to create write-ups of their experiences. Here are the first two:
- Michael
- Erik

On the donation side, the Human Rights Foundation has graciously made another donation. Bitcoin is a fantastic tool for economic freedom for those living in oppressive regimes, and user-centered design can help ensure the technology becomes accessible to those who need it most.

We’d also like to thank Saunter for being a monthly donor. He was recipient of grant #3 and has been a great design contributor to the bitcoin ecosystem for many years now.

On the website, the page about grant information has been updated with two helpful tools to make the application process more convenient. The “Project Fit Assessment” helps identify whether a project idea is generally a good fit. Once that has been confirmed, the “Proposal Worksheet” helps think through all the different aspects of a proposal with lots of tips and considerations. The foundation administrators continue to be available for questions and conversations.

For information about new and ongoing partnerships, please follow the Bitcoin Design newsletter or join Discord. There is a particular effort in formalizing education initiatives.

With the community turning 5 this summer, a report is in the works summarizing milestones, project contributions, and much more. It should be released in the next 1-2 weeks, keep an eye on the progress here.

Support Our Mission
Your donations make this work possible and help us continue supporting designers and researchers who are making bitcoin more accessible and user-friendly. Every contribution goes directly toward funding grants for community members working on critical design challenges, from privacy-enhancing technologies to user research that ensures bitcoin can serve those who need financial freedom most.

We welcome one-time donations or monthly supporters.

See you in the community.
