Meet Chris, design systems expert and general connoisseur of all things UX. He has contributed to the Bitcoin UI Kit for some time and will take a more active role, which the grant will facilitate for him. Design systems are near and dear to him, he has even created a Design System OS.  

The Bitcoin UI Kit has become a very useful design system to kick-start design work for all kinds of bitcoin applications. It emerged from work on the Bitcoin Design Guide about 3.5 years ago, and has grown to include 300+ UI mock-ups. They are based on best practices and a powerful design system with standardized typography, colors, icons, components, navigation patterns, and much more. Now, when designers start work on a new application or feature, they do not need to start with a blank slate, but stand on the shoulders of the UI Kit to focus on what makes their project unique. Examples of projects based on the UI Kit are the new Bitcoin Core App and JAM.

The project is at a fairly mature stage, where smart iteration, promoting adoption, and supporting designers and projects is important. It is also a goal to move towards fully open-source design tools, like Penpot. Chris will help with these efforts, and we’re excited to be able to support him.
