About
At BKJS we provide hot food, water, hygiene supplies, and more to people recently released from Brooklyn Central Bookings. We are outside from 2pm to 2am every Friday, rain or shine.
We do not consider ourselves to be an organization, nor do we want to be one. We are a collective of individuals with a common goal and a greater purpose — the abolition of the carceral system. We are abolitionists, drawing from the knowledge and experiences of generations of Black organizers, and we acknowledge that we DID NOT create mutual aid or jail support work. We are simply doing this type of jail support and mutual aid, our way. We understand that jail support is a temporary intervention aiming to reduce harm created by the NYPD and the entire carceral system.
We believe in fostering a culture of learning, growth, accountability, personal boundaries, and transformative healing justice. We will continue to strive for a world where jails and prisons are not needed. Where community building is not only encouraged but begins to become the norm. We move in good faith and hope that you will support us in this endeavor.
Sincerely,
BKJS
