Recent Expenses (Made in June 2022, published in August 2022) / more news to come!
Published on August 10, 2022 by chanel

Hi folks! Happy summer ☀️

my name is chanel (any pronouns) and I’m a member of the steering committee. I joined last summer and have been learning so much and enjoy being a part of a group that aligns with my values so much.

We are so grateful for the ongoing donations from you all. It allows us to engage with folks and compensate them for their time and talent. Speaking of! We had a Youth Organizing Showcase on June 11, where we hosted six youth creators and organizers from Washington, D. C., Washington, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, and Iowa. We were blessed with spoken word performances, a digital project, a life map, and presentations of organizing experiences and challenges. We look forward to supporting more youth-led events.

I also had the opportunity to attend Journey for Justice's Equity or Else conference in Maryland last May. Journey for Justice is one our our partners and we joined them, and many other grassroots organizations, to strategize a quality of life agenda that includes education, environment, health, safety, economics, and food production/delivery. As a partner, we committed to attending the conference and the steering committee reimbursed me for one ticket. Please look forward to hearing more about this event...there will be a September campaign kick-off in Washington, D.C.!

The most recent expenses were for the registration of the International Conference on Urban Education where four members from the steering committee were accepted to present their #TeachTruth proposal. Please see their website for more information.

Just wanted to share an update on recent expenses. Again, big shoutout to all our donors and supporters!! Please feel free to get in touch anytime. Take care and enjoy the summer!
