About
Brixton is a neighbourhood that has been on the frontline since the arrival of the Windrush Generation, and is in many ways the crucible of Black Britain. A site of generations of resistance, Black political organising and community autonomy in the face of managed decline, urban decay and racist policing, since the 1990s Brixton has come under attack from a different type of threat. The neighbourhood, once stigmatised as a "no-go zone" has become trendy, with more and more money flowing into the area and the working class, Black and Global Majority residents forced out.
We have always resisted against attacks on our communities, and we have adapted accordingly. This new threat, from estate agents and vulture capital, threatens to wash away Brixton's community wealth, and we will continue to fight.
