Influencing policy change - one step at a time
Published on December 14, 2023 by Jodie Char

We're excited to share a significant collaboration that unfolded over the summer in Pierce County, led by Goodwill of the Olympics & Rainier Region. Supported by partners like Washington State University Extension, University of Washington Bothell, and digital equity practitioners from organizations including WorkForce Central, Tacoma Public Library, Metropolitan Development Council, and City of Fife, the Pierce County Digital Inclusion efforts have made impressive strides.

buildJUSTLY successfully advocated for $12.8 million in ARPA funding to support broadband infrastructure development and partnerships in rural Pierce County. This includes a dedicated $500,000 for the expansion of digital literacy initiatives. The proposed budget is now on its way to the Executive and will go into effect Jan 1, 2024. Full details here.

Our big-picture goal extends beyond immediate impact— we aim to influence policy and create lasting change in digital equity. Incredibly grateful to see our work in action.  Thank you for your continued support!
